Last month, California lawmakers signed the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA), a new privacy law that will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2020. While changes to the law’s text is anticipated, the current draft obliges companies to meet certain data protection standards and gives California residents new rights over their data.

According to the IAPP, a half a million U.S. companies will need to comply with this the CCPA. Understanding both the law and your company’s preparedness can be challenging, especially since many of the businesses that are subject to the regulation are small- and medium-sized businesses.
