How IntegrityNext is decarbonizing ESG risk management

IntegrityNext is an end-to-end ESG risk management platform with a central belief that integrity is the foundation of any personal or business relationship. The company’s goal is to elevate supply chain sustainability and compliance by enabling organizations to monitor their suppliers.

The IntegrityNext platform helps organizations improve sustainability and compliance, meet customer demands, and regulatory requirements, covering 20+ topics in the key areas Environmental Protection, Carbon Emissions, Ethics & Social, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Responsible Minerals & Cobalt.

Business goal

With its business model, IntegrityNext drives sustainability and compliance across supply chains. But the company is also committed to further improving its own impact by implementing effective reduction measures across its operations. Seeking  to create transparency around carbon emissions from its own operations, IntegrityNext  partnered with OneTrust to measure the company’s carbon footprint, develop effective reduction strategies, and compensate for emissions that cannot yet be avoided.

IntegrityNext’s mission is to enable companies to instantly establish and integrate an ESG risk management process that aligns with international standards and regulations as well as voluntary commitments such as net-zero targets.

Solution approach

Phase 1: Analyzing IntegrityNext’s carbon footprint

To calculate the carbon footprint, OneTrust took a closer look at all relevant activities across IntegrityNext’s operations. This included not only direct and energy-related emissions (Scope 1 & 2) but also indirect emissions caused by purchased goods and services and other emissions that occur outside the organization (Scope 3).

To make sure they’re comparable, the various types of emissions are calculated in CO2 equivalents. Adding up all emissions, IntegrityNext had a footprint of 97.8 t CO2e in 2020.IntegrityNext’s biggest emission drivers are external service providers the company uses, including IT services and external servers, but also financial services and freelancers. Emissions from electricity as well as emissions caused by employee commute and teleworking are comparatively low with 8.7 and 7.7 tons of CO2e.

Phase 2: Reducing emissions

The company has already significantly cut down on business travel and has further reduced and even avoided emissions from employee commuting by offering remote working options. IntegrityNext also encourages its employees to avoid printing, save electricity, and separate waste.

Phase 3: Offsetting emissions

Offsetting is a relevant stepping-stone to have an immediate impact on unavoidable emissions. IntegrityNext decided to offset the company’s carbon footprint from 2020 by supporting a climate project in Indonesia. This project protects 64,500 hectares of carbon-rich peat swamp forests with a high biodiversity in lowland Borneo from the conversion to palm oil plantations.

In addition, local communities are supported by providing training in sustainable agriculture and biodiversity and wildlife habitat.

The project is accredited by the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCBS) and contributes to all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Value realized

With the OneTrust ESG and Sustainability Cloud, IntegrityNext achieved the following results:

  • Gained an accurate picture of carbon footprint totaling 97.8 t CO2e
  • Offset carbon emissions by supporting a certified climate action project that had the following outcomes:
    • Halted the annual deforestation of 64,500 hectares in the peat swamp forests of Borneo Indonedia.
    • Supported local communities by providing sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and wildlife habitat training

Looking ahead

IntegrityNext and companies like it understand that climate leadership is an essential part of building trust. It takes commitment, collaboration, consistency, and transparency, but it’s worth it. Those that do reap the business benefits that come with being more attractive to stakeholders. Moving forward, IntegrityNext plans to transition to climate neutral servers and systematically tackle their own emissions that stem from its purchased goods and services, representing the largest part of its carbon footprint.
