WP29 Releases GDPR Implementation Guidelines and FAQs

Coming at the heels of the EU ePrivacy Regulation leak, the Article 29 Working Party (WP29) issued a press release announcing the launch of the following GDPR implementation guidelines and FAQs, adopted on December 13, 2016:

The Right to Data Portability

Data Protection Officers (DPO)

Lead Supervisory Authority

In conjunction with this release, the WP29 also confirmed its role as the “EU centralized body” for handling individual complaints under Privacy Shield, and reestablished its cross-border transfer enforcement subgroup.

WP29 will continue to actively address and respond to administrative and procedural aspects of the EU Data Protection Board, and announced plans for another Fablab in April 2017, to which it will invite stakeholders to join in a discussion and present feedback on GDPR topics.

The recently launched guidelines and FAQs are a result of the action items that stemmed from WP29’s last Fablab workshop that took place in July 2016, called: “GDPR/from concepts to operational toolbox, DIY.”

The workshop gathered more than 90 participants, 40 of which were representatives of national data protection authorities. The goal of the event was to discuss the operational and practical issues identified in the WP29’s Action Plan for implementing the GDPR.

The Working Party said in the official statement that it welcomes comments from stakeholders until the end of January 2017, which can be sent to the following email addresses: [email protected] and [email protected].
